My Take
Born in Tokyo in August 1961 and educated at Rissho University, Masato Kubota has worked as a voice actor, a television personality, and more recently as a YouTuber. He is best known as Wakuwaku-san, the craft-making host of the NHK children's program Tsukutte Asobo from 1990 to 2013, a role he still plays on YouTube. A voice actor who becomes known for making things with his hands has done something unusual with a career. Holding the attention of small children armed with nothing but paper, scissors and glue is a genuine skill, and one that does not fade with fashion. What I respect most is that a man in his late fifties went out and learned video platforms rather than living off whatever recognition he already had. Performers who survive decades tend to share that trait: when the tools change, they simply pick up the new ones and keep working.
