My Take

Michael Kelly is a master of the kind of supporting role that quietly steals a series. His Doug Stamper in House of Cards remains, for me, one of television's most unnerving studies of loyalty curdling into obsession. Born in Philadelphia and trained at Coastal Carolina, he's the picture of the disciplined, unglamorous craftsman who built a career on trust rather than flash. He doesn't dominate a scene so much as recalibrate it just by standing there. His Mike November in Jack Ryan shows the same understated control. I find character actors like him far more interesting than most leads.
