My Take

Michael Petkovic, the towering 189 cm goalkeeper from Fremantle, earns a particular kind of admiration from me. Keeping goal is the loneliest job in the game, where a single error becomes a goal and clean sheets are simply expected. To stand in that mouth season after season, taking blame for failures and little credit for saves, requires a temperament most outfield players never face. That he carried that pressure as an Australian abroad only deepens my respect. There is no glamour in his line of work, just nerve and reliability, and I think the unglamorous custodians of the net deserve far more recognition than they get.
