My Take
To me Michel Platini was football as art. Born in the small French town of Jœuf, he won the Ballon d'Or three years running from 1983 to 1985, a feat that still makes serious fans shiver. His free-kick precision, his reading of the game, his playmaker's mind, all of it sat at the highest tier. That he later rose to lead UEFA only underscores his weight in the sport, even if his administrative years drew controversy. The elegance he showed on the pitch hasn't faded for me. A Legion of Honour recipient and a national hero, he's a player I fall for again every time I watch the old footage.
