My Take

Mido is one of those players I remember as a poignant blend of talent and temperament. Bursting out of Zamalek and winning Belgium's Ebony Shoe at Gent, he had the gifts to become a global star, and at 188 cm he was a genuine handful for defenders. Yet his restless, move-prone career meant the full promise never quite crystallized. I find that more human than disappointing. Now turned manager, I am curious whether he can pass on a striker's instinct to younger players. Watching what a once-mercurial talent does with the wisdom of hindsight always fascinates me.
