My Take

Mike Patton is genuinely one of the most jaw-dropping vocalists rock has ever produced, and I think he's criminally underrated outside of devoted music circles. The guy fronts Faith No More — already a hall-of-fame résumé right there — but then he turns around and leads Mr. Bungle into avant-garde chaos, explores Italian pop and film scores with Mondo Cane, does grinding noise-metal with Fantômas, and somehow it all feels like the same restless, fearless mind at work. His range (reportedly spanning six octaves) isn't a party trick; it's genuine musical intelligence applied across genres that shouldn't coexist. Growing up in Eureka, California and studying at Humboldt State, he never fit the LA rock mold, and that outsider energy fuels everything he touches. There's nobody quite like him, and that's exactly the point.

Michael Allan Patton (born January 27, 1968) is an American singer, songwriter, producer, and voice actor, best known as the lead vocalist of the rock bands Faith No More and Mr. Bungle.
