Nicole Scherzinger

Nicole Scherzinger is one of those performers who you genuinely feel bad for if you only know her as "the Pussycat Dolls frontwoman," because that framing undersells her so badly. Yes, the Dolls sold over 55 million records and were a genuine phenomenon — Buttons, Don't Cha, When I Grow Up — but Nicole's voice was doing the heavy lifting every single time. Born in Honolulu and raised partly in Louisville, she's got this mix of warmth and absolute vocal power that never quite fit the disposable pop-group mold she was placed in. Her solo run proved she could hold her own on any stage, and when she moved into theater — her Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard on the West End was genuinely acclaimed — it felt like the world finally catching up to what she was all along: a proper all-around performer, not just a group's secret weapon.
