My Take
Nikki Cox represents a very specific kind of late-nineties American comfort television, and I mean that as praise. Across Unhappily Ever After, Las Vegas, The Norm Show and her own self-titled vehicle, she had the timing and warmth that sitcoms live or die on, with a dancer's physical ease underneath the jokes. That a network handed her a show bearing her own name says how bankable that likability was. I find her underdiscussed today; she helped set a tone of breezy, character-driven comedy that current TV could honestly use more of. An easy presence that was harder to pull off than it looked.
