My Take

Norman Whiteside is one of those names that makes me appreciate how young football can ask its talents to grow up. Signing professional forms at Manchester United at seventeen and immediately becoming a key player is staggering when I sit with it. The Belfast-born forward and midfielder carried real weight on that side. What I find most human is that he later became an autobiographer, which tells me there was a story worth telling beyond the goals. Players who peak that early often have the most complicated relationship with the game, and I suspect his book gets closer to that truth than any stat line ever could.
