Raj Babbar

Raj Babbar fascinates me as a rare figure who lived two demanding public lives with conviction. A respected Hindi and Punjabi film actor who later became a three-time Lok Sabha member, twice a Rajya Sabha member, and state Congress president in Uttar Pradesh, he carried the magnetism of the screen into the harder arena of politics. What I respect is the willingness to trade applause for accountability, to serve rather than simply perform. Whatever one makes of his political fortunes, the trajectory itself, from storyteller to elected representative, speaks to a restless sense of purpose that I find genuinely compelling.
