Ritchie Blackmore

Ritchie Blackmore is rock history embodied. Co-founder of Deep Purple, Rainbow, and Blackmore's Night, he built a legend on ferocious, precise guitar work, then did something genuinely surprising: he spent his later years exploring gentle, medieval-flavored folk. That range fascinates me. He's famous for being difficult, but I read that as the flip side of an artist who refuses to compromise on the exact sound in his head. Born in 1945 and still playing, he never bent his aesthetic to fashion. I have a soft spot for stubborn geniuses who chase their own vision over public approval.
