Saddam Kamel

Saddam Kamel is a figure I find genuinely haunting. Son-in-law and relative of Saddam Hussein, a military man who also dabbled in acting, he lived at the dangerous center of Iraqi power. His defection and fatal return in 1996, dead at just 35, reads like tragedy scripted by history itself. What lingers for me is that small detail of his being a part-time actor, a flicker of ordinary humanity behind the machinery of a brutal regime. His life is a reminder of how proximity to absolute power can be both privilege and a death sentence.
