My Take

Sally Gunnell is, to me, one of the most underrated greats in athletics history. Over a roughly two-year window from 1992 to 1994 she swept every major title available in the 400 m hurdles, Olympic, World, European, Commonwealth, Goodwill, World Cup. That is not a hot streak; that is total dominance. I admire how completely she seized her peak, leaving nothing on the table. Her later reinvention as a respected television presenter and her OBE only deepen my regard. She is exactly the kind of athlete whose perfect run deserves to be retold far more often than it is.
