Scott Maslen

Scott Maslen embodies something I admire about British television: the unglamorous discipline of being a familiar weekly face. Moving from DS Phil Hunter in The Bill to Jack Branning in EastEnders, he has done the hardest job in acting, showing up to inhabit one life convincingly for years. A former model who threw himself into Strictly and Celebrity MasterChef, he clearly doesn't take himself too precious. And that Grand Theft Auto 2 live-action trailer cameo gives him a cult-edge I find genuinely fun. Longevity in soap opera is undervalued; sustaining it takes more grit than most leading-man careers.
