Scott Phillips

I have a soft spot for drummers who are also architects of their bands, and Scott Phillips is precisely that. Co-founding Creed, Alter Bridge, and Projected means he was not just keeping time but helping build the entire enterprise, and his work across percussion and keyboards shows real musical breadth. He helped define a whole strand of late-nineties and early-2000s American rock from the rhythm seat, which is often the least celebrated position. I admire that kind of foundational, unflashy contribution; the people holding up the structure rarely get the credit they deserve.
