My Take

Se-ri Pak is, to me, one of those athletes whose influence outgrew her own career. She played the LPGA Tour from 1998 to 2016 and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2007, which is the kind of credential that speaks for itself. But what I keep coming back to is what 1998 must have meant: an Associated Press Athlete of the Year nod and the start of a run that inspired a whole generation of South Korean golfers to follow her onto the global stage. From Daejeon to the Hall of Fame is a remarkable arc, and I see her as a true trailblazer rather than just a champion.
