Simone Singh

Simone Singh interests me as a performer who made her mark by playing complexity rather than likability. Her turn as the cunning, formidable Sakshi Goenka in Ek Hasina Thi is the role most people remember, and rightly so, because making a villain compelling is harder than playing a heroine. From Jamshedpur, a steel town, by way of Delhi's Jesus and Mary College, she carries a model's poise into character work with real spine. I think she belongs to that underrated class of Indian television actors who quietly elevate whatever they appear in.
