Skepta

Skepta is, to me, one of the most important British artists of his generation. A Nigerian-British MC raised in Winchmore Hill, North London, he and his brother Jme built Boy Better Know and dragged grime from the underground onto the world stage without softening it for mainstream taste. What impresses me most is his refusal to compromise: he produces, designs, directs and DJs, doing it all on his own terms. That self-made, do-it-yourself integrity is exactly why his success feels earned rather than manufactured. He is proof that staying true to where you came from can still take you to the very top.
