Sonu Nigam

Sonu Nigam fascinates me because versatility on his scale is genuinely rare. Plenty of singers master one lane; he glides between classical, devotional, ghazal, rock and film pop without ever sounding like a tourist in any of them. As a playback singer he is the unseen voice behind countless screen romances, which is a peculiar kind of fame, and the National Film Award and Padma Shri confirm a nation knows exactly what it has. For me, the real measure is emotional: even across a language barrier, his tone carries the feeling intact. That ability to translate emotion without translating words is the mark of a true artist.
