My Take
Steve Bruce embodies the unglamorous virtue I value most in football: persistence. Rejected by several clubs as a schoolboy, he forged a twenty-year career as a no-nonsense centre-back, then spent decades in management down to clubs like Blackpool. What strikes me is that he never seemed to chase prestige; he chased work. Players who climb from rejection tend to coach with unusual empathy, and I suspect his teams felt that. He may never headline a highlight reel, but the longevity and grit of his journey impress me far more than flash ever could. Bruce is the sort of professional I instinctively root for.
