Takeshi Tsuruno

Takeshi Tsuruno is a likable pile of contradictions. Born in Moji, Fukuoka in 1975, he went to high school in Tokyo, and he is filed under singer, actor, tarento and blogger, four labels that usually add up to someone who does nothing especially well. To many Japanese viewers he is Asuka, the hero of Ultraman Dyna, and something about that part stuck to him: the earnest, faintly guileless energy carried straight over into his variety television work. Most performers build a persona to hide behind. Tsuruno seems to have built a career on refusing to. It should not work as well as it does.
