Tarkan

Tarkan strikes me as one of pop music's great cultural bridges. Born in Alzey, Germany, he moved to Turkey as a teenager and grew into a national icon, which gave his music a rare double vision. I hear European pop sensibility melted into Turkish melody, sensual and instantly recognisable, and that fusion let his songs travel far beyond their home market. Studying in New York only widened that lens. My take is that his appeal lies precisely in not belonging fully to one place, letting him sing across borders in a way few artists manage so naturally.
