My Take
Gurley is the kind of athlete I find genuinely poignant to write about. At his peak with the Rams, after going tenth overall out of Georgia, he was nearly the perfect modern running back: size, vision, and a burst that made him appointment viewing. But the position is merciless, and knee trouble cut the prime short. I respect players who burn that bright even briefly more than I do steady careers that never touch greatness. He gave us a few seasons of something special, and to me that counts for a lot. I hope retirement is treating him kindly.
