Tom Daley

Tom Daley is one of the most quietly remarkable athletes of his generation. A world champion at fifteen, he then endured years of near-misses before finally claiming Olympic gold in Tokyo, and that persistence alone earns my respect. But what makes him special is the whole picture: openly being himself, knitting poolside in a way that delighted the world, building a media career, and earning an OBE. He blends elite competitive grit with disarming warmth and authenticity. I think he reshaped what a public-facing athlete can be, and he did it entirely on his own terms.
