My Take

Lynch commands my respect as much for substance as for symbolism. Greensboro-born and Harvard-educated, she became the first African-American woman to serve as U.S. Attorney General, succeeding Eric Holder under Obama as the 83rd to hold the office. What impresses me is her grounding as a working prosecutor, twice serving as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York before the appointment. She broke a double glass ceiling not through rhetoric but through proven competence in the trenches. I read her as someone who quietly insists on doing things by the book, and that steadiness is what I admire most.
