Born on October 10, 1965, in Tateyama, Chiba Prefecture, he is a singer, songwriter, and guitarist who, as the vocalist of the legendary rock band X JAPAN, has moved fans around the world. A tenor as clear as crystal yet full of power—hear it once and you do not forget it.
But the road he walked was never a straight one.
From the Sea at Tateyama
At the mouth of Tokyo Bay, on the southern tip of the Boso Peninsula, sits Tateyama in Chiba Prefecture. In this town wrapped in sea and sky, Toshi grew up.
After studying at Chiba Prefectural Awa High School, he chose a path in music. In time, his voice changed from that of one young man in the provinces into a sound that rang out across borders.
