My Take
Will Young interests me as the man who proved a talent-show winner could last. Winning the very first Pop Idol in 2002 made him the global Idol franchise's first champion, and his debut became the fastest-selling in UK history, but those records could have been a curse. What I respect is that he didn't burn out. He pushed into acting and stage work, bringing the curiosity of an Exeter graduate to a pop career that could have been disposable. To me, his real achievement isn't the chart record but the longevity, refusing the one-hit fate that swallows so many overnight stars.

He came to prominence after winning the 2002 inaugural series of the ITV talent contest Pop Idol, making him the first winner of the worldwide Idol franchise.
