Yoon Jin-yi

Yoon Jin-yi is one of those South Korean actresses who quietly builds a filmography without making a lot of noise about it, and I find that kind of career genuinely interesting. Born in Daejeon in 1990 — not Seoul, not Busan, but a mid-sized city with no obvious showbiz pipeline — and trained properly at Sejong University, she came up the methodical way rather than through idol groups or overnight casting. She broke through in the 2012 drama A Gentleman's Dignity and has worked mostly in television since, from Reply 1994 to My Only One, with a couple of films along the way, and she tends to pick roles with real texture rather than playing it safe. She's still in the thick of her career in her thirties, which is often when the genuinely interesting work starts arriving.
