My Take
Some performers spend a lifetime chasing a role that sticks. Yuriko Hishimi got hers in her early twenties and has lived beside it ever since. Born in Tokyo in 1947, she signed with Toho in 1965, made her film debut the following year, and then came Anne Yuri in Ultra Seven. For a whole generation of Japanese viewers, she simply is Anne. What strikes me is that she never seems to have fought it. Most actors treat a defining role as a cage to escape; her social media handle still carries the name, which reads to me as something closer to affection. Our file on her is thin, with no award list and barely a filmography, and I would rather admit that than pad it out. One role of that weight explains more than a long resume would anyway.
