My Take
AJ McLean is the Backstreet Boy who always seemed like he was having just a little more fun than everyone else on stage, and honestly, good for him. Growing up in West Palm Beach, Florida, he co-founded one of the best-selling boy bands of all time, and BSB's run — from "Quit Playing Games" to "I Want It That Way" to somehow still selling out arenas in the 2020s — is genuinely one of pop music's great long-game stories. What I respect most is that AJ has been open about his struggles with addiction and rehab over the years, which takes real guts when you're living that kind of public life. He's got that rough-around-the-edges energy that set him apart from the smoother BSB image, and it made him feel like the most real one in the group. A survivor in the best sense.
