Aaron Ruell

To me Aaron Ruell will always be Kip from Napoleon Dynamite, a deadpan performance so specific it lodged in my memory permanently. What I admire is what he did next: rather than chase that fame, he stepped behind the camera as a photographer and director. There's a quiet confidence in landing one unforgettable role and then choosing a craft that keeps you out of the spotlight. I suspect he reads people well, which is exactly what a good portrait photographer needs. The restraint impresses me more than any sequel ever could have.
