Ajaypal Singh Banga

Ajay Banga's arc fascinates me precisely because it bridges two worlds we rarely see joined. Running Mastercard's global payments machine, then taking the helm of the World Bank, is a leap from maximizing profit to wrestling with poverty and development at scale. As a turbaned Sikh who emigrated from India and reached the summit of American business, he is a genuine modern success story, but what earns my respect is the pivot toward public purpose. I am curious whether private-sector pragmatism can actually move a sprawling institution, and he may be the rare executive built to test that.
