Akira Ishida

Okay, I have to be honest: Akira Ishida is one of those voices I'd recognize blindfolded in about half a second. There's something almost unfair about his range, he can play the icy, too-smart genius, the soft wounded loner, and the silky villain you absolutely should not trust, and they all sound like fully different people. That Aichi-born, Nihon University background barely matters to me next to the fact that the man just casts a spell with his delivery. He picked up a Seiyu Award supporting actor honor back in 2007 and has stayed frontline for decades, which tells you it's craft, not luck. I also love that he stays low-key and a little mysterious off-mic, no oversharing, just the work. Count me as someone who's been emotionally ambushed by that voice more times than I'd like to admit.
