My Take

Alba Rohrwacher is exactly the sort of European actor I wish more people outside Italy knew. The awards list speaks for itself, the David di Donatello, a Volpi Cup at Venice in 2014, a Nastro d'Argento, and that kind of run only happens with real craft, not luck. Born in Florence in 1979 to an Italian-German family, she's become a fixture of serious Italian cinema and a frequent collaborator on the festival circuit. What draws me to her is the quietness of her work; she rarely reaches for the big gesture, and I trust performers who can hold a scene with stillness. A genuine artist's actor.
