My Take

Stepping into a band as iconic as the Temptations is no small thing, and Ali-Ollie Woodson did it for twelve years. That, to me, says everything about his voice and his nerve. Filling shoes already worn by legends could crush a lesser singer, yet he made the role his own and still found time to record with Aretha Franklin and others. I admire performers who thrive inside a legacy rather than hide from it. He passed in 2010, but the records keep his soulful, muscular voice very much alive, and I keep returning to them.
