My Take

Amy Yasbeck is woven into my memory of 1990s American comedy, even if she rarely got top billing. Born around 1962 in Blue Ash, Ohio, and a University of Detroit Mercy alum, she had a warmth that made sitcom roles feel lived-in. I mostly think of her as Casey Chappel Davenport on Wings, but I'm also fond of the fact that she played the mermaid Madison in Splash, Too, stepping into a role Daryl Hannah originated. There's something charmingly gutsy about taking on that kind of follow-up, and to me it captures her easy, unpretentious screen presence.
