My Take
Mejia's story is the one I find most genuinely American. From Elizabeth, New Jersey, through Rutgers and the labor movement, she rose to be national political director for Bernie Sanders in 2020, served in the Department of Labor, and by 2026 won a seat in Congress. What earns my respect is that her politics grew out of organizing and sweat rather than abstraction. When someone from an immigrant working-class city reaches the center of power, it says something real about mobility, and I hope she carries those shop-floor voices straight into the Capitol.
