Andrés Galarraga

Andrés Galarraga is one of those players who makes you remember why you love baseball in the first place. "The Big Cat" — a nickname that fit perfectly — was an absolute force at first base for nearly two decades, swinging for the Colorado Rockies, where he won the NL batting title in 1993 and hit 47 home runs in 1996. But honestly, what sticks with me most isn't the stats: it's the comeback. He was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 1999, missed an entire season, and came back to play five more seasons. That's not just athletic resilience — that's something deeper. The Gold Glove defense was a bonus on top of a career that deserved far more attention than it got outside of Denver and Caracas.
