Anthony Phillips

Anthony Phillips is one of those figures I find fascinating precisely because he walked away. As the original lead guitarist of Genesis, he helped shape their earliest sound, then left in 1970 just before the band ascended to global fame. Most people would chase that train, but he chose his own quiet path as a composer and multi-instrumentalist. I respect that choice deeply. It suggests someone who loved music more than the spotlight, and the long, understated career that followed feels like the work of a true craftsman rather than a star.
