My Take
Audrey Niffenegger is a writer I respect for refusing to stay in one lane. Her debut, The Time Traveler's Wife, took a tricky premise about time and love and turned it into an instant bestseller, which is no small feat. What intrigues me most is that she is equally a visual artist, and I suspect the painter's eye is exactly what makes her prose so vivid. Teaching while continuing to write speaks to a serious, sustained commitment to the craft. I tend to believe that authors who write heartbreak so cleanly carry a deep well of feeling inside, and her work quietly confirms it for me.
