My Take
Ayan Mukerji intrigues me because he carries the weight of the storied Mukherjee-Samarth lineage yet announced himself on his own terms with Wake Up Sid, a coming-of-age film that landed both critically and commercially. Working with Ranbir Kapoor under Dharma Productions puts him squarely in Bollywood's mainstream, but what catches my attention is his range, swinging from intimate youth drama toward sprawling fantasy. As a writer-director, he shapes his own material, and there is something fitting about a filmmaker born on Independence Day taking big swings. I find directors who keep raising their own stakes genuinely exciting to follow.
