My Take
What I admire most about Baker Mayfield is the chip he carries on his shoulder. A walk-on who clawed his way to the Heisman Trophy, then went first overall, only to spend years proving doubters wrong all over again. At 185 cm he's undersized for a quarterback, so he wins on grit and improvisation rather than physical gifts. To me, that makes him far more compelling than the prototype passers. He's the kind of athlete whose career is a referendum on stubbornness, and I find myself rooting for that defiance every time he digs out of another supposed dead end.
Overview
Baker Reagan Mayfield (born April 14, 1995) is an American professional football quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League (NFL). Following one season of college football with the Texas Tech Red Raiders, he played for the Oklahoma Sooners, becoming the first walk-on player to win the Heisman Trophy. He was selected first overall by the Cleveland Browns in the 2018 NFL draft.
