My Take
Banks is the artist I reach for when I want music that feels like a dim room at 2am. Born Jillian Rose Banks in Orange County and a USC graduate, she stacked up the Fall Over and London EPs in 2013 before Goddess (2014) launched her worldwide. What hooks me is the contradiction in that title: she sings about being hurt and used, yet bites back with real teeth. It's alt-R&B that shows you the wound instead of just the gloss, and that honesty is exactly why I trust her. I'd hand her catalogue to anyone craving emotional weight.
