My Take
I've got a real soft spot for Ben Affleck, because he's that rare Hollywood leading man who's just as comfortable behind the camera as in front of it. He and Matt Damon writing Good Will Hunting and snagging the screenplay Oscar at twenty-five is still one of my favorite underdog stories. Then he reinvented himself as a director, and honestly his directing is where I love him most. Argo winning Best Picture felt earned, and Gone Baby Gone and The Town proved it wasn't a fluke. Sure, he took some lumps as Batman and survived plenty of tabloid noise, but I respect a guy who keeps swinging, learns from the misses, and clearly cares about craft. That slightly weary charm and dry wit just make him easy to root for.
