Ben Wheatley

Ben Wheatley is one of the most distinctive voices in British cinema, and I'm genuinely a fan. Coming up through advertising and short films before breaking into features, he developed a style that blends thriller and horror with thick veins of black comedy and satire. What I value is how uncompromising his sensibility is: a filmmaker from Billericay who also edits his own work, giving his movies a jagged, unsettling rhythm you can feel in your spine. He isn't for everyone, and that's exactly the point. The directors who leave a mark are usually the ones unwilling to sand down their edges, and Wheatley keeps his sharp.
