My Take

Bernice Liu's career is a study in graceful border-crossing, from Prince Rupert to pageant titles in Vancouver and Hong Kong, then on to acting, singing and modelling for TVB. But the choice I admire most is her 2011 decision to leave Hong Kong television and return to Canada to continue her education. Walking away from the peak of entertainment to invest in learning takes a self-possession that is rare in that world. I read it as a distinctly Capricorn grounding, ambition tempered by patience. Beauty and talent are common; the humility to keep studying is not, and it earns my applause.

Bernice Jan Liu Bik-yee (born January 6, 1979) is a Canadian actress, singer, and commercial model based in Hong Kong.
