Billy Connolly

Billy Connolly is, to my mind, the rare comedian whose stature only grows the more you learn about where he came from. A Glasgow welder turned banjo-playing folk act turned the man many regard as Britain's greatest stand-up ever is a trajectory you simply cannot script. What I admire most is that knighthood and establishment honours never sanded down his profane, improvisational edge. He stayed loose, fearless, and gloriously himself. As an actor he brought genuine weathered soul to his roles. For me he represents comedy as lived experience rather than craft, and that authenticity is exactly why he endures.
