My Take
I have a soft spot for Brad Paisley precisely because he started behind the scenes, writing hits for other singers before stepping into the spotlight himself. A small-town West Virginia kid who proved himself with a pen first feels deeply honest to me. He is a genuinely gifted guitarist, and country music, being a genre built on land and people and memory, rewards artists who carry their roots with them. Paisley does exactly that. His International Achievement awards show his reach, but what I value most is the sincerity that runs through everything he records.
