Brendan Cowell

What I admire about Brendan Cowell is the rare completeness of his authorship. Adapting his own novel Plum for television and starring in it isn't a vanity move; it's a writer refusing to hand his story to anyone else. That kind of self-contained creative loop is uncommon, and it tells me his performances are grounded in something he actually built. The Cronulla coastal upbringing seems to give his work an unpretentious, salt-air honesty. I'd rather watch a craftsman quietly steering his own material than a star chasing the next franchise, and Cowell strikes me as exactly that sort of patient, durable talent.
