My Take
Bryn Terfel is, to my mind, one of the great voices of his generation, and what fascinates me is his trajectory. He built his name on Mozart's Figaro and Don Giovanni before deliberately moving into the heavier worlds of Puccini and Wagner, a shift that takes real courage and vocal wisdom. The knighthood and the CBE are deserved, but what I respect most is how proudly Welsh he has stayed throughout it all. That cavernous bass-baritone commands a room before he sings a phrase. He is, simply, a singer who silences an audience by sheer authority.
